Chairman's Message 2006May I extend a warm welcome from the Organising Committee to all visitors to the 2008 Festival. Firmly established as one of the biggest and most popular events in the North West and this year celebrating its 23rd year. It is especially pleasing to organize this event which extends throughout so much of Fleetwood Town with its historic main road tramway and involves so much of the community, its residents, businesses, local groups, charities and of course vehicle enthusiasts. It provides a very special fun day for thousands of people of all ages with something of interest for everyone, all in the one event. The 2007 was one of very few outdoor events to be unaffected by the horrendous weather experienced last summer. We have almost always been blessed with fine weather in the past, however the signs for this years was not looking to good, with heavy rains forecast for the week end and storm warnings issued by the met office. The rains held of with only a slight drizzle toward 4PM. Building on the successes of last year, we are looking forward the 2008 event with new exhibits and displays already in the final planning stages. In previous years we have had the privilege of welcoming many Celebrities to the event and non more well received than the Late Fred Dibnah. So this year to celebrate both Fred’s Contribution to our Vehicle Heritage and to coincide with the opening of the Memorial at Bolton Museum, we are proud to dedicate the event to him. Fred’s wife Sheila will be in attendance along with an exhibition. So pop in and say hello. There will be static trams on display, at both Fishermans Walk and adjacent to the lifeboat station, plus vintage tram rides and service trams running from Fisherman's Walk. As well as steam engines and steam lorries we have "Martha" the Sentinel Steam Bus making a welcome return following last years attendance. Once again "Martha" will be providing rides around the Town .The Steam Carousel returns again to entertain you along with other fairground rides, miniature railways, dancers, bands, performers, gymnasts and many of the country's colourful Town Criers. Stalls selling transport related goods spread through the event alongside other trade, charity and local stalls. The Festival is a very rare admission free event and the costs and efforts to organise it are always increasing. Any offers of help or support would be welcome, just call in at the Rally Control bus on Albert Square. We all hope that you enjoy this years festival and look forward to giving you all a great day out here in Fleetwood Keith Yates, |
